Hallways Decorating

The first impression is the most important, they say... The hallway leaves the first impression, when we talk about home. Therefore, when arranging the hallway, keep in mind that it is the mirror of your home, and that the sight of the hallway creates an impression of you as a person, of a family that live in that space.

The floor of the hallway should be easy to maintain. For the choice of flooring, it is best to choose a more durable materials, ceramic, granite, marble, parquet. The substrate should not be too shiny because every spot is noticeable, nor too much embossed because it would retain the dirt. It is important that these are not smooth and slippery surfaces and that are easy to maintain and clean. If you have a wooden floor in the hallway, consider to put the mat. Setting of mats will protect the floor from wear and tear.

The basic rule for decorating the hallway is that it should not be of dark colours, because it leaves the impression of getting into the unpleasant, dark place. For the walls of the small rooms the bright colours are mainly proposed: white, cream, light gray. Yet strong colours or wall coverings to highlight one or two walls are very often used. Cool colours, green and blue, visually give the hallway wider look, while warm colours make the walls closing in, and the result is visually more expanded but shorter space. If you want to play with the colours, then choose two shades, one lighter and one darker. Let the longer wall be of a lighter colour and the shorter of the dark. Sometimes, you need to get away from the usual template of simplicity, and highlight only one characteristic wall with wall covering, or more intense colour, details.
